  1. Spooky - misty forest with bat in silhouette 5in card

    Posted on

    Hi Craft Addicts!

Well Hallowe'en is tomorrow and I have saved this one till last as it is the one that I am in a way most proud of - I hand painted the background first and then had the "Eureka" moment to make this card...

GC 2019 - Halloween - Spooky Spooky on hand colured background scene 5in wh

    How I made this card:-

    • As mentioned before, I hand painted the background some time ago (on a pre-cut Deckle Edged White card) using watercoloiur Mica sparkle paints. I had a vague idea that I wanted it to be a forest scene but not the normal blue one - so used greens, yellow and greys to create it.
    • Once it was dry, I left it for a couple of days as I wanted to see if it worked as the forest before doing anything more - luckily it did!
    • I then used the latest Sheena Douglass Cartridge pen to outline the trees and bits of scenery.
    • I edged it with a black alcohol marker and then attached it with some PVA glue to a panel of Matt Gold Mirror Card (leaving a narrow border all around it).
    • I cut out the Spooky word in the same gold Mirror card and also another in black card,
    • I glued the main background to the front of a 5" white card (again using PVA glue) and then added the two words to the bottom left hand corner, placing the black one slightly above the gold one.
    • I also cut out a bat from another of Sweet Dixie's Hallowe'en range in black card and stuck it to the top right hand corner.

And there you are... a cool hand painted card that would be good for Hallowe'en or other Spooky occasions!

  2. Boo! Cute ghost on oval background C6 card

    Hi Craft addicts!

Hallowe'en is really nearly upon us and this card is one of my favourite ones I made as it is simple but fun. See how it was made below....

GC 2019 - Halloween- Boo! cute ghost in yellow on oval frame bg C6 white c

    How I made this card:-

    • I first of all cut out the Ghost and Boo! using Sweet Dixie dies - the former in orange cardstock (from Create & Craft's Core Collection) and the sentiment out in black (Lynda Chapman's World of Paper).
    • I had cut out the scalloped edged oval background using a Spellbinder's die (not sure which one it is to be honest) in white card and then cut out two ovals (with Picot edge), the smaller in Kraft card and the larger in black card - both of them are Tattered Lace dies.
    • I stuck the smaller oval on to the scalloped edged one using PVA glue and then attached it to the larger one again using PVA glue.
    • I placed it on to the front of a C6 white card, working out where exactly I wanted it but before sticking it down, I used some medium Ultra strong Red Liner tape and added a strip to the bottom of the card.
    • I removed the red liner and added some of the Copper/Rose Gold foil and burnished it down until I couldn't feel any more tackiness.
    • Once that was done, I then stuck the main background on to the card using PVA glue.
    • I felt the ghost would "fade" against the Kraft card, so stuck it on to some Black card, cut around it leaving a narrow border and then attached it to the card using thick foam pads.
    • Finally, i used PVA glue to add the sentiment to the bottom left hand corner and added some Black Nuvo Drops (from Tonic Studios).
  3. Spooky - Fox in forest with bats and raven 6in cream card

    Hi Craft addicts!

Well, Halloween is drawing nearer and I have made another card using a mix of dies on a hand painted background.. great fun to make once again and I hope you like it...

gc 2019 - Halloween - Spooky black cat with trees etc on hand coloured bg 5

    How I made this card:-

    • I first of all created the background using various blue and green Sparkle paints (inks) from both Stamps by Me Gossip range and Crafter's Companion Spectrum Noir range.
    • Once I was happy with the effect (I must admit I painted it before thinking of using it for this card.
    • I then cut out the frame in white pearlescent card using a die from Time for Tea and stuck it on top of the background using PVA glue.
    • I then edged it in black using an Alcohol marker.
    • I had various Halloween themed die-cuts (in black card) left over from various Companies such as Tattered Lace and Sweet Dixie and so I placed them over the background, deciding where I wanted everything to go.
    • Once I was happy with the design,I glued everything in place again using PVA glue.
    • I then stuck the whole thing on to the centre of a 6" Cream pearlescent card (from Create & Craft).
    • I added the Spooky sentiment which I had cut out in Black and gold - I stuck the former down directly on to the background and then off set the gold one slightly.
    • I then added the raven die-cut so it was standing on the word.
    • Finally, I added 3 drops of Black Nuvo drops from Tonic Studios to opposite corners.

And there you are, one way of using a hand painted background, some die cuts and a square card....

  4. Boo! Cute ghost and church yard black and white C6 card

    Hi Craft addicts!

This is a really simple card to make as it contains just black and white paper and a few dies...

GC 2019 - Halloween - Boo... Ghost and churchyard black and white C6 card -

    How I made this card:-

    • I first of all cut out all of the relevant elements - the ghost, the churchyard and the Boo! sentiment - the first two in white card and the latter in black.
    • I also cut out the mat layer (from a Time for Tea set - I think it is called Fishing in black card.
    • I used PVA glue to stick it to the middle part of a white linen effect C6 card.
    • I then stuck the Churchyard into the centre part of the layer again using PVA glue.
    • I added some foam pads to the ghost and place him/her to the left of the image.
    • I used PVA glue to stick the Boo! sentiment directly on the card.
    • Finally, I used black Nuvo drops to add some drops to the right hand side so it balanced the card out.

And there you are - a really simple but fun card that would be great for Halloween.
